Classic Editor is an official WordPress plugin, and will be fully supported and maintained until 2024, or as long as is necessary. At a glance, this plugin adds the following: * Administrators can select the default editor for all users. * Administrators can allow users to change their default editor. * When allowed, the users can choose which editor to use for each post. * Each post opens in the last editor used regardless of who edited it last. This is important for maintaining a consistent experience when editing content. In addition, the Classic Editor plugin includes several filters that let other plugins control the settings, and the editor choice per post and per post type. Your patio can be the perfect spot in which to can relax, entertain, unwind and spend time with the people you care about most. With some carefully chosen elements, you can turn this part of your property into your cherished oasis.

What Should Affect Your Patio’s Design?

When trusting a contractor to craft your exterior spaces, the resulting designs should ultimately be driven by functionality, aesthetics and the desired moods you wish to invoke. For example, a patio built primarily for entertaining friends and family will look much different than one designed to be a secluded retreat near the back of your property. As you envision your future patio, it’s wise to think about three key factors:

  • Your primary purposes for this space
  • Accessibility from other areas of your property
  • How you want it integrated your home or landscaping design

These should give you a good starting point as you consult with a construction firm, since its professionals will need this critical information to design and build a space that suits your needs.

With over 400 completed new builds and renovations, JNO Construction & Design’s the professionalism, integrity and unique design approach to build the perfect patio for your home. Contact us to learn more or get started on your project.

What Are the Best New Home Features? https://www.jnoconstruction.com/what-are-the-best-new-home-features/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/what-are-the-best-new-home-features/#respond Wed, 31 Jan 2018 17:02:53 +0000 http://24constructionanddesign.com/?p=3557 With our Los Angeles bathroom remodel and kitchen remodel services, we at JNO Construction & Design believe that we can help you achieve the home of your dreams. We’re not only highly-skilled at remodeling and constructing wonderful homes, but we also keep an eye on all of the latest trends to make sure that you’ll be living in the most modern home possible and that the value of your home will stay high for years to come. We’d like to give you some of our recommendations for the best new features that go perfectly in a modern home.

Our Modern Home Feature Recommendations

Here’s just a handful of some of the most sought-after features found in modern homes:

  • Smart Technology – With smart technology, you’ll be able to control your home with just your phone. Smart technology can be used so that you can lock your doors, manage your thermostat, and turn off your appliances even when you’re many miles away from home.
  • Energy Efficiency – Nowadays, most new homes are trending toward the energy-efficient direction. New homes are much more energy efficient than those made even just several years ago. This can be very beneficial as energy-efficient appliances and fixtures will save you money in the long run.
  • Outdoor Living Spaces – While it’s not technically a new feature (or new at all), outdoor living spaces have exploded in popularity recently. Whether it’s a large patio, an outdoor fireplace, or an outdoor hot tub, many people just love spending time outdoors and would jump at the opportunity to do so while in their own living area.
  • Spacious Walk-In Closets – Another feature that’s risen in popularity is the walk-in closet. It’s considered to be incredibly desirable and not just because it’s efficient at storing all of a couple’s clothes and belongings – it’s actually also become something of a status symbol that people enjoy showing off!
  • Entertainment Rooms – If you’re going to have guests over to entertain, what better way than with your very own entertainment room? Entertainment rooms can greatly vary based on the size of the home and the amount of money you have to work with, but it can be used as anything from a game room to a bar to a movie theater to even a basketball court!
  • A Modern Kitchen – Perhaps the most important room of the house is the kitchen, making it no surprise as to why modern homes focus so much on it. A modern kitchen should have more than enough room for families to eat in and hang out at. Many of the most attractive modern kitchens will have features such as stainless-steel appliances, a kitchen island, and granite countertops.

Top Trends in Residential Construction Techniques https://www.jnoconstruction.com/top-trends-in-residential-construction-techniques/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/top-trends-in-residential-construction-techniques/#respond Wed, 31 Jan 2018 13:00:11 +0000 http://foxthemes.com/web/wp/prague.1.2.0/?p=1443 In all aspects of life, time continues to move forward and bring with it new trends and developments. Home construction is absolutely no different in this regard. Just as a house from the 90s is much different from a house built in the 40s, modern homes have many differences from homes that were built merely a decade ago. As your source for Los Angeles bathroom remodel and kitchen remodel services, we at JNO Construction & Design would like to go over some of the top trends that are currently being utilized in modern residential construction. Maybe it’ll even give you an idea for your own home!

Utilizing the Outdoors

It’s no longer the days of old where there’s a clear distinction between the indoor area and the outdoor area. More and more homes nowadays are utilizing the outdoor space for living areas and also actually integrating rooms that are a combination of indoor and outdoor. This can provide a comfortable and relaxing living area along with the benefits of the outdoors, including the sunlight and an improved airflow. As backyards can be expensive, doing this can cost more money, but it’ll also lead to a greater enjoyment of one’s own home.

A Reliance on Modern Technology

Modern technology is capable of making a home more efficient than ever. Digital tools and devices allow a person to be able to operate many different functions in the house through the usage of a smartphone or even just simple voice commands. This can include controlling the home’s temperature, the lights, or an entertainment system. Additionally, by going green with your house with additions such as solar panels and geothermal pumps, you’ll be able to not only help out the environment, but save some money in the long run.

New Living Rooms

While older homes would utilize traditional living rooms, these rooms sometimes don’t exist in modern homes – at least not in their previous forms. Living rooms may still be used nowadays, only they often have a modern twist on them. Instead of a traditional living room with a couch, chairs, and a large television, a homeowner may instead choose to have a bar as the living area.  You’ll see plenty of other interesting uses for living rooms as well, including parlors, libraries, theaters, and outdoor patios.

Roofing Checks https://www.jnoconstruction.com/roofing-checks/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/roofing-checks/#respond Mon, 29 Jan 2018 01:28:16 +0000 http://24constructionanddesign.com/?p=3576 As your source for Los Angeles kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, and home repair, we at JNO Construction & Design want to do all we can to make sure that your house stays in great condition. While there are all sorts of ways that a home can gradually deteriorate over time, there’s one common area that many people often forget about – their roof. We’d like to take this time to tell you about the importance of periodically checking your roof.

Why You Should Check Your Roof

Much like everything else, your roofing material is susceptible to wear and tear. The reason why this needs to be paid attention to though is because your roof is essentially your first line of defense against the elements. Not only that, but when you neglect taking care of your roof, there’s a good chance that you’ll end up costing yourself money in the long run. By checking your roof periodically, you’ll be able to catch minor issues early on before they can turn into something more problematic, such as damaged roof boards, studs, or even interior ceilings and walls.

How Often Should You Inspect Your Roof?

Most will recommend that you check your roof either annually or bi-annually, depending on the outdoor factors. If there aren’t any extreme weather events, such as wind or winter storms, checking it annually can be sufficient. The best time to take a look at your roof is sometime during autumn, before a cold and long winter has the chance to set in.

What You Should Look For

When you check your roof, you don’t necessarily need to use a ladder and walk around on your roof. In fact, staying off of your roof is actually helpful to the long-term health of your roof. Simply using a pair of binoculars to examine your roof can be just as sufficient for your roofing check. Whichever method you choose, we recommend checking for these problematic signs:

  • Broken or missing shingles
  • Shingles that are starting to buckle, curl, or blister
  • Cracked caulk or any rust spots on flashing
  • Worn or cracked rubber boots around the vent pipes
  • Areas with moss or lichen
  • Piles of colored grit from the roof in the gutters

Tending Your Garden This Summer https://www.jnoconstruction.com/tending-your-garden-this-summer/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/tending-your-garden-this-summer/#respond Fri, 22 Sep 2017 01:33:52 +0000 http://24constructionanddesign.com/?p=3579 As your Los Angeles general contractor, it’s our goal at JNO Construction & Design to give you the home of your dreams through our home building and remodeling. We’d even like to give you some tips for taking care of your garden! If you have a garden, we recommend doing the following for the summer season.

Our Tips for Tending to Your Summer Garden

  • A great garden actually starts with a great lawn. Make sure you tend to your lawn and keep it freshly mowed and watered. If necessary, you can even have a professional company care for your lawn.
  • Watering your garden in the morning is actually the most efficient. Doing this will help prevent garden mildew.
  • Put mulch over your soil to keep weeds out. Mulch can also keep your soil cool and stop water from evaporating. Alternatively, you can always use a type of weed barrier (consisting of fabric, cloth, cardboard, or something similar) to keep weeds out.
  • Consider building raised beds for your garden. By raising the level, it’ll save you from extra strain on your back and it’ll also make it so there will be less weeds that you’ll need to fight off.
  • Make sure to consider the positioning of your plants so that all of them will be able to achieve the benefits of the summer sun.
  • For bigger gardens, you may consider adding a seating area for comfort or another point of focus as well.
  • If you need inspiration, you should check to see what plants are growing and thriving in your neighbors’ gardens.
  • Be persistent. Tending to your garden is a never-ending process where there will always be something to do. No matter if you’re watering, planting, or trimming, make sure to put in the time and effort needed to keep your garden looking its best.

  1. Upgrade To More Durable and Attractive Furniture: Many people spend time on their patio when they want to relax and unwind.  We can help you choose tables and chairs, benches, and more that will be perfect for your climate and provide enjoyment for years to come.
  2. Consider A Warm And Inviting Fire Pit: With the help of a fire pit, your outdoor patio space will be perfect for
year-round lounging! The perfect fire pit will also add a gorgeous touch to any patio.
  3. Pick Your Lighting:  Lighting is key to creating ambiance, so think about the environment you want to create and we can help you choose mood lighting that will best fit your lifestyle.
  4. Add The Flare of An Outdoor Bar: If you really want to impress your guests, add the functional flare of
an inviting outdoor bar. This could include new plumbing and a sink, or could be as simple as a rolling island.
  5. Choose An Outdoor Kitchen and Grill: This way, the cook doesn’t need to be hidden away in the house and can
join all of the outdoor fun instead! Adding a kitchen and a built-in grill is a great idea for people who regularly entertain and love spending time outside.
  6. Consider A Covered Patio To Protect It From Varying Weather Conditions: Covered or partially covered patios will protect you and your furniture from rain or too much sun and give your patio a cozy and comfortable
    feel.
  7. Shady Trees Or Fruit-Bearing Plants: Big trees will add an extra sheltered appeal as well as be very aesthetically pleasing. Fruit-bearing plants will be useful as well as fragrant and decorative.
  8. Don’t Forget About Your Outdoor Flooring:  Flooring doesn’t stop at the back door of your home! You can help
beautify your patio with stunning stone, concrete, wood, tile, and more.
  9. Consider A Screened-In Patio:  Some customers prefer screened-in patios, so choose anything from
glass to screen mesh to cozy up your space and better control pesky bugs and weather!
  10. Pick A Theme: If you are unsure what specific pieces you want in your patio but have a general idea or a theme in mind, our team is more than happy to help you get a list going of ways to bring your dream to life.

Top Ten Landscaping Tips https://www.jnoconstruction.com/top-ten-landscaping-tips/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/top-ten-landscaping-tips/#respond Wed, 20 Jul 2016 01:21:14 +0000 http://24constructionanddesign.com/top-ten-landscaping-tips/ Landscaping, if done correctly, can be incredibly rewarding. A well-landscaped yard improves the value of your home, looks beautiful from the inside or outside, and can help you better enjoy the yard or other outdoor features of your home. To help with the landscaping process, here are our top ten tips for landscaping effectively in Southern California:

  1. Plan For Access: It may seem like a nice idea to cover as much square footage as you can with plants, but that can hurt you later on. When planning out a garden, be sure to leave space open for access by people, vehicles, or for later projects like patios.
  2. Use Focal Points: Deciding on and sticking with a few key focal points, such as a tree, fountain, or pond for example, can help make your overall design look cohesive.
  3. Curve Gently: Curves are great for gardens, but keep them long, slow, and gradual.
  4. Use The Building: A garden or yard should complement your house, and vice versa. Use well-placed plants to soften hard edges, but let features like windows go uncovered.
  5. Make It Move: Your garden is not a painting, so do not plan it that way! Add some milkweed to attract butterflies, berries for the birds, or flowers for buzzing bees.
  6. Everything Is Negotiable: Just because something is already there does not mean it has to be. Do not be afraid to remove existing features if you have got something better in mind.
  7. Placement Is Key: When selecting plants, always consider the space they will occupy. Think about rain, sunlight conditions, and the plant’s full size before making a decision.
  8. Harvest A Bounty: Gardens are gorgeous, but that is not all they have to be. Adding a few vegetables or herbs can turn a beautiful garden into a fun source for spices, herbs, and even dinner!
  9. Get Scented: Gardens do not have to just appeal to the eyes. Adding fragrant plants like lavender, jasmine, or gardenias will turn your garden into a full sensory experience.
  10. Make It Multi-Level: The world exists in 3D, and so should your yard. Adding steps or raised areas will help give your garden a new layer of dimension and texture.

The Importance of Landscaping https://www.jnoconstruction.com/the-importance-of-landscaping/ https://www.jnoconstruction.com/the-importance-of-landscaping/#respond Thu, 23 Jul 2015 01:52:36 +0000 http://24constructionanddesign.com/the-importance-of-landscaping/ Home is where the heart is. Much of our attention is spent on organizing and designing aspects of our humble abodes. And aside from the physical structure of the house, landscaping plays an important role in the overall feel and design.  After all, the front yard is the first impression that visitors receive. Recent surveys conducted by Harris Poll for the National Association of Landscape Professionals found that 75% of Americans believe time spent out in their yards is important. So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the landscaping industry is quoted as a $75 billion/year industry. In California, given the intense, record-breaking drought that has been ravaging lawns and greenery and has nearly exhausted our scarce water resources, landscaping takes a bit of extra thought and precaution.

image
image

It is not atypical for counties to report that over 60% of residential water supplies go toward landscaping. That is an astounding rate. And it also makes landscaping the ideal candidate to look for ways to manage and conserve water usage.  Particularly in California, movements have sprouted that encourage homeowners to practice water-wise landscaping techniques. These measures promote the use of efficient irrigation systems, drought resistant plants, climate-appropriate designs, and the importance of being informed and educated about the various techniques currently being used.

image
image

To encourage the use of water-wise landscaping designs, cities have taken the first initiative. Cities have been offering rebates to those who have replaced their lawns with drought resistant designs that help counteract their declining water supplies. Several municipalities have even taken to their political leverage to establish contests that reward homeowners who have incorporated water-wise landscaping designs. Some companies have also extended their aid to promote drought resistant plants, offering free installations of drought resistant landscapes to eliminate water waste.

image
image

So when considering landscape renovations, it is vital to plan and coordinate between the site and the plants that you wish to use. It’s recommended to draw out a site plan that details shapes, sizes, and borders of your garden. All aspects of your renovation should be kept in mind, including any hardscaping, irrigation, seating, entertainment, even your choice of plants. When matching the right plants with the right site conditions, the use of additional resources, such as water or pesticides, will be minimized. This is why climate plays a huge role in developing efficient landscapes and irrigation systems.
